The
NCAA tournament officially begins on Tuesday with the Alabama State Hornets
(22-9) taking on the Morehead State Eagles (19-15) in an opening round game
that precedes the first round of the field of 64.
Alabama
State earned their ticket to Tuesday’s game after winning the SWAC regular
season and conference tournament title. While the Hornets were handed the less
enviable opening round game and ultimately a showdown with the number one
overall seed in the NCAA tournament Louisville Cardinals they are certainly a capable
squad that has experience playing some big programs.
The
Hornets dropped seven of their first nine games to start the season but other
than a blowout at the hands of Nebraska they played close games with Mississippi
State, Mississippi and Auburn.
Morehead
State managed to work their way to the OVC tournament title after finishing the
regular season fourth in the conference. In their conference tournament title
game they knocked off the favored Austin Peay Governors in OT to get their
Tuesday ticket. The Eagles dropped their first six games of the year including
blowout losses to Vanderbilt and Louisville.
Alabama
State and Morehead State will meet in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday night at 7:30
p.m. ET.
