NBA Scores: Houston Rockets Hold on to #3 Spot in Western Conference Playoff Picture with Road Win Over New Orleans Hornets

Luis Scola scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Ron Artest added 18 points and 5 assists and Carl Landry finished with 12 points and 6 boards as the Houston Rockets (44-25) went on the road and landed a surprising 95-84 victory over the New Orleans Hornets (41-25) on Monday night to hold on to the number three spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.

After a first quarter that ended tied up at 23-23 the Rockets built a 41-33 advantage five minutes into the second frame. Chris Paul then led the Hornets on a 10-0 run to grab a 43-41 lead and went into the break in front 47-44.

The Hornets quickly extended their lead to 55-44 early in the third as they ran off the first eight points of the third but the Rockets responded with a 14-2 run to give them a 58-57 advantage and they led 67-64 at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter James Posey managed to put the Hornets in the lead 75-73 on a layup but the Rockets grabbed the lead for good with a 14-2 run that New Orleans couldn’t recover from.

Chris Paul led the Hornets with 29 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals while David West finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Houston shot 45 percent from the floor and an impressive 27-31 from the free-throw line while New Orleans was a perfect 19-19 from the stripe but hit just 39 percent from the floor.
