Murder of Lorenzen Wright Still Unsolved
Nearly a year after former NBA player Lorenzen Wright was found in a Tennessee field the Memphis police "a long way from solving the crime," said police director Toney Armstrong. Family and friends of Wright have alleged that the police mishandled information and made mistakes during the investigation that may have allowed evidence to be lost.
Police did not take a missing person's report seriously which led to the body being found 10 days after the report was initially filed. The location of the body, in a swampy field in summer, led to heavy deterioration and loss of evidence. There was also a 911 call that dispatchers handled poorly. The call came from Wright's phone after friends and family had seen him last.
The last person to see Wright, his ex-wife Sherra Wright, said that he left her house with a box of drugs and money. She said he left with a person she did not know and thought he was going to make a drug deal.
