Entries into the 2011 USPT Championship, the U.S. Putting Tour's season-ending national championship, are flowing in from professional and amateur golfers according to the Tour's president, Jim Hartley.
The U. S. Putting Tour will award $10,000 to the winner of the USPT Championship. If the winner is an amateur, that person will get merchandise prizes in accordance with USGA rules on amateur status and the $10,000 will go to the top professional. The tournament is open to all golfers who are at least 13 years old as of September 26, 2011.
"Interest in the USPT Championship is coming from a wide range of golfers," said Hartley. "PGA club professionals, mini-tour players, competitive amateur golfers and even people who are just casual golfers but who are looking for a fun event to compete in."
Hartley went on to say that competing in the tournament requires only two days of a person's time. Entrants can select the day during the tournament they want to play their first round and, if they advance, they will play again on Sunday, October 2, the final day of the Championship.
The first round consists of 72 holes of putting on the 12-hole putting course that will be created on The Crossings' large, two-tiered practice putting green. Holes will vary in length from as short as four feet to over 50 feet. Scoring will be medal play. Golfers will play in twosomes.
Golfers can register at the
putting championship website and select both the day and time of day to play their first round, which will take a little over two hours to complete. Start times each day are 8:30 a.m., noon, and 3:30 p.m.
The winner of the
putting tournament also gains an entry into a 2012 World Putting Tour event, which will carry an even larger purse. The World Putting Tour is licensed to Armada Sports & Entertainment, a company that is running The
Golf Championships starting in 2012.
