Six Alabama residents have been sentenced for prison time after admitting to a federal judge that they ran a prescription drug dealing ring in Theodore, Alabama.
Federal and local authorities began their investigation of the drug ring several years ago, when a Theodore local O.D.ed on Xanax. Part of the police operation involved undercover agents purchasing prescription meds from low level dealers. By 2010, authorities knew that the dealers in the ring were getting their prescription medications from three areas: Las Vegas, Texas and Florida.
The former drug ring consisted of a small network of family and friends who will now all be serving prison time. The sentences were as long as 3 years and as short as 8 months.
Drug Abuse Solutions, the
drug abuse rehabilitation website of Narconon Riverbend, reports that prescription drug abuse is considered one of the fastest growing drug problems in the U.S. “Part of the problem,” said a drug counselor available for comment, “is that people think that somehow prescription drugs are safer than street drugs, even when you’re abusing them. But they’re not. No drug is safe unless it’s used exactly as the doctor says by the exact person who it was prescribed to.”
According to
Alabama drug rehabs, one of the most common drug problems in Alabama is prescription drug abuse, second only to marijuana.
Narconon Riverbend Retreat is considered by many authorities to be one of the premiere drug abuse centers in the United States. A non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Narconon Riverbend operates a hotline designed to help addicts and their families. Their phone number is 1-877-340-3602.
