NCAA Tournament East Region Schedule Thursday, March 19: Duke Blue Devils and Villanova Wildcats Take Court on Opening Day

The NCAA tournament gets started on Thursday and the East Region will feature four games on opening day with the Duke Blue Devils and Villanova Wildcats among the eight teams vying for a National Championship.

In game one of East Region action the #7 Texas Longhorns (22-11) will face the Minnesota Golden Gophers (22-10) at 7:10 p.m. ET in Greensboro, N.C. After spending much of the year in the Top 25 the Longhorns fell on difficult times but they managed to sneak in to the NCAA tournament with quality wins over Oklahoma, UCLA, Villanova, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. The Golden Gophers started the season 16-1 but have gone 6-9 over their last 15 games.

#3 Villanova (26-7) will start their tournament against the #14 American University Eagles (24-7) at 7:20 p.m. ET from Philadelphia, PA. Villanova has won 12 of their last 15 games with wins over Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Marquette twice. The Eagles picked up their NCAA tournament bid after winning the regular season and conference tournament title in the Patriot League. American has won 13 straight and 19 of their last 20.

Game three of the East Region will pit #2 Duke (28-6) against the #15 Binghamton Bearcats (23-8) at 9:40 p.m. ET in Greensboro, N.C. The Blue Devils have won eight of their last nine games including three straight to win the ACC conference tournament title. It will be a tough task for the Bearcats who are making their first NCAA tournament appearance in school history but they have won 11 straight.

The final game of East Region action on Thursday will feature the #6 UCLA Bruins (25-8) and the #11 VCU Rams (24-9) at 9:50 p.m. ET in Philadelphia, PA. After dropping three of four in the middle of Feb. the Bruins won five straight before an ugly loss to the USC Trojans in the Pac-10 conference tournament. The Rams have become a popular pick in this matchup after winning five straight and capturing the regular season and conference tournament title in the CAA.
