Elisabeth Fritzl Testifies in Incest Case

In an 11-hour tape Elisabeth Fritzl testified against her father Josef Fritzl, who is accused of keeping her in a cellar for decades, raping her and burning the body of one of their infant sons.

One of Elisabeth’s brothers, Harald, also testified by video. Details on the testimonies have not been released to the media.

Josef Fritzl pleaded guilty to incest charges but denied a murder charge and enslavement. He pleaded “partly guilty” to raping his daughter.

He held Elisabeth in the cellar of his family’s Australian home for more than two decades, telling his wife that their daughter had run away. He fathered seven children with his daughter. Josef took three of the children to live upstairs with the family, telling his wife that Elisabeth had dropped them at the house. To back up the claims, he forced Elisabeth to write letters.

The murder charges relates to an infant boy named Michael, who died soon after birth. A neo-natal expert testified that the infant died from lack of medical care. Josef confessed to police that he burned the infant’s body in an oven in the house.

The case first came to light in April 2008 after Elizabeth convinced her father to taken her daughter Kerstin to the hospital after the teen suffered convulsions. Hospital staff became suspicions and went to police.
