31 Dead in South Korea Floods, Landslides

Swollen rivers and landslides triggered by days of heavy rain left 31 dead in South Korea. The National Emergency Management Agency reported at least 10 people are missing and feared dead. Hundreds of others were forced to leave their homes.

Authorities say 13 of the deaths occurred in the Chuncheon area when a mudslide hit three houses and an inn. Fifteen others died in Seoul when landslides from Umyeon Mountain buried houses and buildings. In Gonjiam, a river overflowed and killed 3 people.

Search and rescue efforts are currently underway across all of the affected areas. "We are overwhelmed by so many rescue requests and it's not easy to keep track (of the damage)," an official at NEMA told AFP.
