Ken Norton, the golfer who will enter the Guinness World Book of Records for playing at least 18 holes of golf each day for 365 consecutive days, has entered the 2011 U.S. Putting Tour Championship, golf's national championship of putting.
Mr. Norton recently completed his 365 day golf quest, which was a promotion run by JC Golf, a golf management company that manages courses in San Diego and Riverside Counties. He posted a total of 601 official rounds of golf in the 365-day span.
"We're very excited to have 'Mr. 365' competing in the inaugural USPT Championship," said Jim Hartley, president of the U.S. Putting Tour. "The USPT Championship is for all golf enthusiasts, even those that aren't quite as committed to the game as Ken."
The
putting championship brings together golfers of all ages, including men and women, amateurs and professionals. Anyone who is at least 13 years old by September 26 is eligible. Participants are not required to have an official handicap for the
putting competition because the event is played at scratch.
Hartley said that all golfers will compete for the overall title of America's Best Putter and the crystal trophy. Competitors will play for a cash purse and a $10,000 first prize or merchandise prizes, if entered as amateurs. Professional competitors will come from the ranks of PGA club professionals, Nationwide and mini-tour players, and other golfers who prefer to compete for money than as amateurs.
Mr. Hartley also indicated that he expects to be able to announce a presenting sponsor for the 2011 USPT Championship within days. He said that the presenting sponsor is in the golf equipment industry. Current sponsors include Rubio's Fresh Mexican Restaurants, AimPro Golf and the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.
