The
United Nations has announced its World Food Program will more double its current
aid to Kenya, increasing its food relief to 3.5 million people in the drought-stricken
country.
Kenya
has been devastated by the current drought and the majority of the population
is unable to afford the ever increasing price of food. While the drought has
taken a serious toll on the farm lands many of those fields were have been left
untilled as a result of political violence associated with last year’s
political violence.
That
violence chased thousands away from their lands before they were able to plant
their crops and now the country is facing a catastrophic food shortage that has
left many malnourished and on the brink of starvation.
