NCAA Tournament South Region Schedule Friday, March 20: Syracuse Orange and Arizona State Take Court
The NCAA tournament will head into its second day of first-round games on Friday and the South Region will feature a pair of games as the Syracuse Orange and Arizona State Sun Devils look to avoid an early upset.
After putting together a dramatic Big East conference tournament run the #3 Syracuse Orange (26-9) were rewarded with a favorable seeding in the NCAA tournament as they face #14 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (24-7) at 12:15 p.m. ET in Miami, FL. Syracuse was looking questionable after dropping six of eight over a one month period but they closed the year with seven straight wins before falling in the Big East tournament finals to Louisville. The Lumberjacks won the regular season and conference tournament title in the Southland but did not pick up any impressive wins out of conference.
In the South Region’s final game of the first round the #6 Arizona State Sun Devils (24-9) will take on the #11 Temple Owls (22-11) at 2:45 p.m. in Miami, FL. Arizona State finished third in the Pac-10 and then fell in the conference tournament finals to USC. The Owls made their way into the NCAA tournament after an unexpected A-10 conference tournament title.
