#9 Texas A&M Aggies Shoot Lights Out to Drop #8 BYU Cougars in West Region Action

Bryan Davis scored 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Donald Sloan added 14 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds and Chinemelu Elonu finished with 8 points and 10 boards as the #9 Texas A&M Aggies knocked off the #8 BYU Cougars 79-66 on Thursday to advance to the second round on West Region action.

After opening the game with a three-pointer from Jackson Emery the Cougars went the next eight minutes with just two field goals as the Aggies built a 26-8 advantage and eventually settled for a 42-20 lead at the half.

The Aggies extended their lead to 15-points in the second half when Josh Carter buried a three-pointer but a 6-0 spurt from the Cougars cut their deficit to single digits with 15 minutes left. Texas A&M answered with a  7-0 run to go up 54-38 and BYU was never within single digits the rest of the way.

Texas A&M shot an astounding 57 percent from the floor and outrebounded BYU 31-23.
