NCAA Tournament West Region Scores: #5 Purdue Boilermakers Avoid Upset Bid from #12 Northern Iowa Panthers

E'Twaun Moore scored 17 points, JaJuan Johnson added 14 points and Robbie Hummel chipped in 9 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the #5 Purdue Boilermakers overcame a dismal shooting performance from beyond the three-point line and knocked off the Northern Iowa Panthers 61-56 to advance to the second round in the West Region.

Northern Iowa held an early 6-4 advantage in the first half but then went cold as Purdue took control of the game with a 14-0 run that put them in front 18-6 and the Boilermakers maintained that 12-point lead as they carried a 32-20 advantage into the half.

Purdue managed to maintain their lead throughout the second half but the Panthers made the game close down the stretch as they closed to within 56-54 with 19 seconds left on the clock but Chris Kramer sank a pair of free-throws for the Boilermakers to make it a two-possession game and Northern Iowa couldn’t answer.

The Boilermakers hit just 3-15 from beyond the three-point line but they managed to get to the foul-line twice as much as the Panthers.
