Americans consuming less sugar according to new study

Even though America is by far a country with a high obesity rate a new study shows that we are actually consuming less sugar than in the previous decade.

Two-thirds of the decline in sugar consumption comes from cutting sugar sweetened soft drinks from our diets.

According the study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the percentage of sugar in our diets dropped from 18 percent between 1999 and 2000, to 14.6 percent between 2007 and 2008.

Too much sugar in our diets not only causes diabetes, but also makes us a heavier nation. Many people will lose excess weight, yet they aren’t completely satisfied with their appearance so they turn to liposuction and plastic surgeons to look better.

Though we have cut down on the amounts of sugar we take in, we still eat more than we should. The average person consumes the equivalent to 22 teaspoons of sugar in a day, which is significantly higher than nutritionists recommend. The average woman should only have 6 teaspoons a day, and for men the recommended amount is 9 teaspoons.

Until we make drastic changes in our diets, we will still be an overweight nation. Foods high in fat and sugar can make a person look and feel fat, and we can’t all rely on liposuction to make us trimmer.

An obese person must first lose excess weight before they are the right candidates for liposuction. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are also key components to achieving and maintaining a slim figure.
