USS Hartford and USS New Orleans Collide in Strait of Hormuz

Two U.S. Navy vessels have collided in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet says the submarine USS Hartford and the amphibious ship USS New Orleans collided early Friday between Iran and the Arabian peninsula.

The USS New Orleans ruptured a fuel tank in the accident. Nearly 95,000 liters of diesel fuel spilled into the water. It’s unclear what damage the USS Hartford sustained. Fifteen sailors aboard the submarine suffered minor injuries.

No other details on the collision were available. Damage to both vessels is still being evaluated.
