NCAA Tournament Midwest Region Scores: #3 Kansas Jayhawks Hold Off #14 North Dakota State Bison to Advance

Sherron Collins scored 32 points and dished out 8 assists, Cole Aldrich added 23 points and 11 rebounds and Marcus Morris chipped in 8 points and 7 boards as the #3 Kansas Jayhawks held off the #14 North Dakota State Bison 84-74 on Friday to advance to the second round of the Midwest Region.

The first half featured a great showdown between the Bison’s Ben Woodside and the Jayhawks’ Sherron Collins as the two filled the bucket sand kept the game close. Woodside finished the first half with 16 points while Collins kept the Jayhawks in front with 17 points as Kansas carried a 43-34 lead into the break.

Kansas pushed their advantage to 11 points early in the second but the Bison used an 8-0 run to close the gap to 47-44 before the Jayhawks stopped the bleeding with an Aldrich dunk.  Woodside kept the Bison close but Collins kept answering for Kansas and his three-pointer started a 7-0 spurt that put them in front by ten with 5:47 left in the game and North Dakota State were never closer than six the rest of the way.

The Jayhawks shot 50 percent from the floor and committed just five turnovers in the game while the Bison hit 41 percent from the floor and turned the ball over just eight times. Ben Woodside led all scorers in his final collegiate game with 37 points on 13-23 shooting.
