Dante Cunningham scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Reggie Redding added 13 points 6 boards and 6 assists and Dwayne Anderson finished with 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the #3 Villanova Wildcats crushed the #6 UCLA Bruins 89-69 on Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16.
With the score tied 9-9 in the first half Villanova took control of the game after running off 11 straight points to move in front 20-9. James Keefe stopped the bleeding for the Bruins with a tip-in but the Wildcats rattled off a pair of threes and a dunk from Anderson to extend their lead to 28-11 at the midway point of the half.
The Cats extended their lead to as many as 19 points but a 7-0 spurt from the Bruins brought the Villanova lead down to 38-26 before settling with a 13-point lead at the break.
Villanova then used a 13-4 run to start the second half that all but buried UCLA as they face their largest deficit to that point at 57-35. The Cats led by as many as 25 points in the frame as they emptied their bench but kept scoring.
Villanova shot 47 percent from the floor and outrebounded UCLA 39-26 on the day.
