NCAA Tournament South Region Scores: #2 Oklahoma Sooners March into Sweet 16 with Win Over #10 Michigan Wolverines

Blake Griffin scored 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Willie Warren added 16 points and 4 assists and Austin Johnson chipped in 12 points as the #2 Oklahoma Sooners advanced to the Sweet 16 on Saturday with a 73-63 win over the #10 Michigan Wolverines.

Oklahoma managed to build a 22-15 lead midway through the first half but the Sooners couldn’t put the Wolverines away as Michigan an 8-1 run to tie the game and then Anthony Wright answered a Blake Griffin layup with a three-pointer and DeShawn Sims hit a layup as the #10 seed had a 28-25 lead. The Sooners managed to regroup and closed the half with a 5-1 spurt that put them in front 30-29.

When action picked up in the second half it appeared as if Michigan left their game in the locker room as Oklahoma opened with a 12-2 run that put them in front 42-31. The Wolverines tried to answer and a 10-0 run brought them to within 58-55 with 6:02 left in the game but a jumper from Willie Warren and a layup from Griffin gave the Sooners some breathing room and then an 8-0 run late in the game sealed the Wolverines fate.

Much of the game was decided by Oklahoma’s ability to get to the foul-line as the Sooners attempted 27 free-throws compared to just 11 for the Wolverines.
