Driver in fatal pedestrian accident was not cited

A 23 year old St. Paul, Minnesota woman was killed Thursday night as she was crossing Hwy 36 at Century Ave.

Alicia Gladick was pushing her toddler in a stroller when she was struck. Her two year old son was just far enough ahead that the driver missed him. He was taken to the hospital but didn’t have any life threatening injuries.

Gladick attempted to cross the street against a red light. According to a witness, she appeared to just run out in front of the oncoming vehicle. The police detected alcohol in her system, but are unclear on the level of her impairment.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Gladick was Raymond Muckala, 63. He was not cited for the accident because the victim was not obeying pedestrian traffic laws.

Last year another pedestrian was fatally injured at the same intersection. Had the driver been at fault for the collision, an accident attorney would be able to seek financial compensation for the victim’s family.

Minnesota State Troopers respond to a lot of accidents at this particular intersection, but stated that if both pedestrians and drivers obey the traffic laws then accidents like this rarely occur.

Pedestrians are vulnerable to serious injuries when they are hit by a vehicle and often lose their lives. Accident lawyers can file a personal injury suit if the driver was negligent.

Tragedies like this can be prevented and as long as accident attorneys fight for the victims maybe these kinds of things can be prevented in the future.
