Pakistani authorities have confirmed two children, both around 12 years old, were killed Monday when a bomb exploded in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. The bomb was planted in a garbage dump near a gas station on the outskirts of the city. A senior police official identified as Hamid Shakil told the AFP that the children were garbage collectors.
At least three civilians were injured in the explosion. The bomb was planted by insurgents and was likely meant for security forces. A military vehicle had driven by the site of the blast just minutes before the explosion.
Shakil told the AFP a bomb disposal squad was sent to the site to collect evidence. No other details were available.
