An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has prompted Ford Motor Co. to issue a recall for 1.1 million trucks sold or registered in certain states. The administration began their investigation in to a possible fire hazard involving gas tanks in the trucks late last year.
Ford announced the recall Tuesday. The company said metal straps holding the gas tank could rust, which may eventually lead to the tank coming loose and leaking fuel or dragging the ground. The recall includes only trucks sold or registered in states where road salt is regularly used in cold weather because salt can speed up the rusting of the straps.
The recall includes 1997 through 2003 F-150s, 1997 through 1999 F-250s and 2002 to 2003 Lincoln Blackwoods. The recall applies to trucks in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
