Mommy makeovers on the decline

Mothers who get plastic surgery to restore their figures to their pre-birth bodies have declined over the last decade. But according to a survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 62 percent of new moms would have surgical procedures like liposuction, breast lifts and tummy tucks if price wasn't an issue.

Dr. Matthew Schulman, assistant professor of plastic surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan, told the New York Daily news that they are seeing more patients in their 30s and 40s, who are looking to have mommy makeovers.

In the past, it was more typical for women in their 50s and 60s to request procedures to correct the changes pregnancy causes. In some circumstances, women are having liposuction, breast augmentation and tummy tuck as soon as a year after giving birth.

Typically, a complete package of correctional procedures can cost close to $20,000, but for moms this is well worth it.

Having a baby is the happiest time in the lives of women, but pregnancy can take a toll on a woman’s body. A woman typically gains 30 pounds during pregnancy, for some that figure is significantly higher. Her growing belly will develop stretch marks, and in some cases her skin is so stretched out that it won’t shrink back causing her to have excess skin. Extra fat can rest on the stomach and hips.

Many new moms can turn to a qualified plastic surgeon to help them get back to their original figures. Liposuction can be employed to eliminate excess fat, renewing their self-confidence.
