In both Illinois and California, foreclosure attorneys are holding free workshops to help homeowners who are behind on their mortgages. The Neighborhood Community Foundation will hold their workshops to help people know their rights and how to identify bank fraud. There are a number of non-profit organizations across the country that offer help to distressed homeowners.
Adam S Tracy, a Chicago area foreclosure attorney, told the Sun Times, “Many American homeowners currently in foreclosure are being victimized by fraudulent actions by banks and/or lawyers.” He further stated that 8 out of 10 loan files contain lender violations and unless the loan holder takes action they will still face seizure.
In the courts, judges overlook loan inaccuracies unless the homeowners along with their foreclosure lawyers challenge the process. The courts are inundated with foreclosures, and in most states there is a huge backlog of cases, which explains a judge’s willingness to disregard the mistakes.
The workshop will give free legal advice and tell attendees how to identify frauds in their mortgages. They will also outline the options available to people, who are behind on their mortgages, like mortgage modification, federal mortgage programs.
The prospect of losing a home is frightening and these people often feel powerless to stop the bank’s actions. If a workshop isn’t available in your area, seeking the advice of a foreclosure attorney is a step that anyone can take to prevent foreclosure.
