An Indonesian fisherman was killed Tuesday by Komodo
dragons. Officials say Muhamad Anwar, 32, died after being mauled by several of
the giant lizards.
He was attacked while searching for fruit at Loh Sriaya
in Komodo National Park. “The fisherman was inside the park when he went
looking for sugar-apples. The area was forbidden for people to enter as there
are a lot of wild dragons,” says the park’s general manager Fransiskus Harum.
Other fisherman rushed Anwar to a nearby clinic on Flores
Island. He was declared dead upon arrival.
Komodo dragons are the world’s heaviest lizards. They can
grow to up to 10 feet and release poison when they attack. Attacks on humans
are rare.
