Social and economic impact of alcohol is far-reaching

Alcohol's socio-economic impact is widespread

When many people think of the problems associated with excessive alcohol consumption, they may think that such problems affect only those who drink or their immediate families. Unfortunately, the impact of alcoholism is felt throughout society and manifests itself in a variety of different ways.

“Alcohol and drug abuse have far-reaching effects on many aspects of life,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Employers, for example, are economically impacted by alcoholism due to productivity loss from premature death, related illnesses, alcohol and drug related crimes as well as incarceration by those who commit those crimes. Others within society are impacted through increased taxes, loss of goods through drug and alcohol-related theft as well as increased insurance costs. We need to view drug abuse and alcoholism as a problem of society, not just a problem that is isolated to the individuals who are alcoholics or their families. If we view alcoholism from this vantage point, we can conquer this problem together, as a whole, as a nation.”

If you suspect that someone in your life has a problem with alcohol abuse, you can help them by utilizing the professional intervention services which are offered by Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center.
