NFL 2009 Schedule: Pittsburgh Steelers to Host Tennessee Titans in Season Opener

The NFL has released the schedule for the opening week of football action as well as the schedule for Thanksgiving Day and the Green Bay Packers will be participating in both as they host the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 13 and then they travel to face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

While the Packers have a pair of games all eyes will be on the NFL’s official start to 2009 when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, Sept. 10. Pittsburgh will be looking to defend their Super Bowl title while the Titans, owners of the NFL’s best record last year, will be looking to knock the Steelers down a level. The game will be broadcast on NBC with an 8:30 p.m. ET game time.

The Green Bay v. Chicago game three days later will also be aired on NBC at 8:30 p.m. and the following night, Monday, Sept. 14 the NFL will feature a pair of games as the Buffalo Bills travel to face the New England Patriots at 7:00 p.m. and at 10:15 p.m. ET the San Diego Chargers head north to take on the Oakland Raiders. Both Monday night games will be on ESPN.

Thanksgiving Day will once again feature three games with the Packers/Bears game on at 12:30 p.m. ET on FOX. The second game will bring the Oakland Raiders into Dallas to face the Cowboys at 4:15 p.m. ET on CBS. The nightcap will feature the NY Giants and Denver Broncos at 8:20 p.m. ET.
