Czech Republic Government Loses Vote of Confidence, PM Announces Intention to Resign

Czech Republic Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek has announced his intention to resign after his center-right minority government lost a vote of confidence.

Topolanek’s fate was sealed when four MPs sided with the opposition Social Democrats and Communists to total 101 votes in the 200-seat chamber, three members of parliament were not in attendance for the vote.

In the end Topolanek became the latest victim of the global financial crisis that has left many world leaders in the position of having to defend their policies and initiatives while their country struggles to regain economic stability.

Topolanek has said he will resign from his position but will wait until a new cabinet is named or lections are held.
