NCAA Basketball Sweet 16 East Region Schedule: Top Four Seeds Fight for Spot in Elite Eight

The NCAA basketball tournament is inching closer to crowning a national champion and on Thursday the Sweet 16 will get under way with four games on the schedule. In the East Region the action will include the four top seeds as the Pittsburgh Panthers, Duke Blue Devils, Villanova Wildcats and Xavier Musketeers each battle for a spot in the Elite Eight.

As the #1 seed in the East Region the Pittsburgh Panthers have had to work their way through the first two rounds with relatively close wins over East Tennessee State and Oklahoma State. They will need to step up against the #4 seed Xavier Musketeers who have marched past Portland State and Wisconsin to land in the Sweet 16. Xavier picked up wins over Missouri and Memphis this year and they certainly have the athleticism, size and leadership for the upset.  Tip off for the Pittsburgh Panthers and Xavier Musketeers is set for 7:27 p.m. ET.

In game two of the East Region Sweet 16 matchup the #2 Duke Blue Devils will be facing off against the #3 Villanova Wildcats. After blowing out Binghamton in the first round the Blue Devils had to fight off the Texas Longhorns to reach the Sweet 16 while the Wildcats had their hands full with American before blasting UCLA in the second round. Duke has won their last five games which includes a run through the ACC tournament while Villanova reached the semifinals of the Big East tournament before falling to Louisville. Tip off for the Duke Blue Devils and Villanova Wildcats is scheduled for 9:57 p.m. ET.
