A salmonella outbreak has prompted the recall of 36 million pounds of ground turkey from the Minnesota based meat company Cargill. The company is recalling all ground turkey produced at their Springdale, Arkansas plant between February 20 and August 2. The affected meat may be contaminated with a strain of salmonella called Heidelberg.
All recalled products have the establishment number “P-963” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The ground turkey was packaged under many different name brands, including Honeysuckle White, Riverside Ground Turkey, Natural Lean Ground Turkey, Fit & Active Lean Ground Turkey, Spartan Ground Turkey, Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey Burgers. Affected store brands include Kroger, Safeway, Randall’s HEB, Giant Eagle and Tom Thumb.
So far, 76 illnesses and one death have been linked to the salmonella Heidelberg outbreak.
