NIT Quarterfinals Schedule: Notre Dame v. Kentucky, St. Mary’s v. San Diego State

The NIT has reached its quarterfinals stage and schools are now fighting for a trip to New York where the semifinals and finals will be held at Madison Square Garden.

In game one on Wednesday the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be facing the Kentucky Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. ET in South Bend. Notre Dame is coming off a disappointing regular season that left them outside the NCAA tournament after high expectations and the same could be said for Kentucky who missed the NCAA tournament after 17 straight appearances.

The Irish knocked off UAB in their opener 70-64 and followed that with a victory over New Mexico 70-68, both games were played at Notre Dame. Kentucky won their first-round game against UNLV 70-60 and then went on the road and beat Creighton 65-63 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In game two on Wednesday the St. Mary’s Gaels will hit the road to face the San Diego State Aztecs at 9:00 p.m. ET. St. Mary’s just missed earning an NCAA tournament bid after a strong regular season that took a hit only when star player Patrick Mills was out with injury. San Diego State just missed earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament but fell to Utah in the MWC tournament finals.

The Gael’s have cruised into the quarterfinals with relatively easy wins over Washington State in their NIT opener and Davidson in the second round. The Aztecs have had the same experience with easy wins over Weber State and Kansas State.
