Brookyln police have arrested a Queens teenager in the
murder of WABC newscaster George Weber. The New York Post reports that John
Katehis, 16, has confessed to killing Weber.
Police say they believe Weber and Katehis met through
Craiglist.com and agreed to meet at the newscaster’s apartment. The Post
reports the pair met for a sexual encounter in which Weber would pay the teen
$60. Authorities have not confirmed those details.
Weber was found dead with over four dozen stab wounds on
Sunday. Investigators believe he was killed Friday night. “We believe that
[Katehis] met Weber over the Internet through Craigslist, and that they agreed
to meet and that while he was inside Weber’s apartment, he stabbed him
approximately 50 times,” said NYPD
spokesman Paul J. Browne.
Katehis “subsequently made statements implicating himself
in the stabbing death,” Browne added. The motive for the murder is unclear.
Weber, 47, was known to listeners as “the news guy” on the
Curtis and Kuby morning show. He recently set up a popular local Weblog,
georgeweberthenewsguy.
