A helicopter operated by Indonesia’s PT Nyaman Air crashed Wednesday on Sulawesi Island near the city of Manado, killing nine people and injuring one. The helicopter was en route to a mine on Halmahera Island.
Newcrest Mining, who chartered the plane along with PT Aneka Tambang as part of a joint venture called PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, reported 8 passengers and 2 crew members were on board the helicopter. The passengers included four Indonesians, two Australians and two South Africans. Both crew members were Indonesians. It is unclear if the injured person was a passenger or crew member.
The cause of the crash is unclear.
