Car Bomb in Northern Baghdad Kills at least 16, More than 30 Injured

A car bomb situated between a hospital and a busy market detonated in Baghdad’s northern Shaab district leaving at least 16 dead and more than 30 injured.

Thursday’s blast was believed to have been orchestrated by al-Qaeda in Iraq and intended to kill as many civilians as possible in the mainly Shia district. Police have said the attack may have been carried as a means of sending a message that al-Qaeda in Iraq was still present in the area.

Among the dead were at least four children and three women.
