Tornadoes Rip Through Rural Mississippi, at least 17 Left Injured

A series of tornadoes has swept over rural Mississippi knocking down trees, damaging homes and buildings and flattening a church while leaving at last 17 people injured.

The town of Magee, MS, about 40 southeast of Jackson, was slammed by the twisters as roads have been littered with debris, their water supply has been damaged and they are now without power as lines were snapped from the intense weather. There have been reports of homes in some areas of Magee being completely destroyed from the twister that hit around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Several residents were said to have been dug from debris as rescue crews quickly spread through the town for those injured.

At last 60 homes were said to have been hit by the tornado while the Corinth Baptist Church was completely destroyed; only its doors were left standing.
