President Barack Obama to Send Additional Troops to Afghanistan

President Barack Obama has outlined plans that would send an additional 4,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan in an effort to train Afghan security forces.

The troops could be deployed as early as June and would be in addition to the 17,000 troops already being sent as reinforcements to the existing 38,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Senators were briefed on Obama’s strategy on Thursday and the president is expected to make the announcement on Friday when he addresses his new Afghanistan strategy.
