NCAA Basketball Sweet 16 East Region Scores: #3 Villanova Wildcats Blast #2 Duke Blue Devils, Cruise into Elite Eight

Scottie Reynolds scored 16 points, Reggie Redding added 11 points and 9 rebounds and Dante Cunningham finished with 14 points and 11 boards as the #3 Villanova Wildcats blew out the #2 Duke Blue Devils 77-54 on Thursday night to advance to the Elite Eight where they will face the number one seed Pittsburgh Panthers.

It looked like Duke was ready to play as they came out and grabbed a 5-0 lead on a Jon Scheyer three-pointer and a jumper from Lance Thomas but Villanova ran off 11 straight and the Blue Devils never saw the lead again. While they never had an advantage the Blue Devils managed to stay close and were only trailing 26-23 heading into halftime.

Kyle Singler opened the second half with a layup to get Duke within 26-25 but the Wildcats then went on a 12-1 run to push their lead to 38-26 and the Blue Devils couldn’t get any closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Duke had an awful game shooting as they finished just 16-60 from the field including 5-27 from beyond the three-point line. The Wildcats outrebounded the Blue Devils 46-32.
