Rapper T.I. Sentenced to One Year and a Day on Federal Weapons Charges

Rapper T.I., real name Clifford Harris, has been sentenced to one year and a day following his conviction on federal weapons charges.

Harris, 28, was facing up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine before he struck a deal and agreed to plead guilty last March. He had been arrested on Oct. 13 2007 after he attempted to purchase unregistered machine guns and silencers.

The rapper now has 30 to 60 days to report to prison and as part of the deal he will need to complete nearly 1,500 hours of community service; he has already completed 1,000 of those hours.

Addressing U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. at his sentencing Harris took the opportunity to say, “Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all.”
