The
body of deputy U.S. marshal Vincent Paul Bustamente has been found in a canal
in the Mexican border town of Juarez.
Federal
authorities in the U.S. have said Bustamente had been wanted for allegedly
stealing a government shotgun. Bustamente had been on administrative leave from
the El Paso, Texas office after he failed to appear in court on charges of
criminal theft.
Police
in the Mexican state of Chihuahua discovered Bustamente’s decomposing body
around 9:00 a.m. on Friday. According to reports he suffered what appeared to
be a gunshot wound to the back of his head.
The
FBI is now working with Mexican authorities in the investigation.
