National Putting Championship Adds Dates

The U.S. Putting Tour announced today that it is adding two dates to Round 1 of its 2011 national championship due to increased demand among professional and amateur golfers wanting to compete in the putting tournament.

Participants in the USPT Championship now have six days from which to select their first round competition date. The days run from Monday, September 26 through Saturday, October 1. On each of these days, golfers can choose from among three start times for the approximately two hour round, 8:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

A total of 72 golfers will advance from these six days of Round 1 play to compete in Round 2 the morning of Sunday, October 2, known as Championship Sunday. From there, the 24 low second round scores will play a third round on Sunday afternoon. The combined second and third round scores will determine the final order of finish.

"It's great to see the interest in our first U.S. Putting Tour Championship," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "By establishing six full days of Round 1 play, we're giving as many golfers as possible a chance to compete for the title of America's Best Putter."

Hartley also said that those golfers who compete for money will have a shot at winning the $10,000 first prize. He indicated that the total prize purse will be announced prior to the start of play and amateur golfers will compete for merchandise prizes. The top three finishers will receive trophies and the top eight finishers will receive an automatic spot in the 2012 putting championship.

Golfers still can enter the national putting tournament by going to the USPT website. The website also provides information on San Diego golf, hotel and shopping savings for those people who enter the USPT Championship.
