NCAA Basketball Elite Eight East Region Schedule: Big East Showdown as #1 Pittsburgh Panthers Face #3 Villanova Wildcats for Final Four Berth

The NCAA tournament inches closer to the Final Four on Saturday and by the end of the night the East Region will have its representative as the #1 Pittsburgh Panthers face the #3 Villanova Wildcats in a showdown between two of the best teams in the Big East.

While Pittsburgh was awarded a #1 seed in the East Region they haven’t exactly marched through the competition as they faced a tough East Tennessee State squad in the first round and then had to battle past Oklahoma State before surviving a scare from Xavier in the Sweet 16. The Panthers have gotten strong play from their big three LeVance Fields, DeJuan Blair and Sam Young and they’ll all need to perform on Saturday when they face Villanova.

After a scare in the first round from American University the Villanova Wildcats have hit their stride as they pasted UCLA in the second round and then crushed Duke in the Sweet 16 to get their ticket to the Elite Eight. Backed by Scottie Reynolds, Dante Cunningham and Corey Fisher the Wildcats have been one of the most impressive teams in the tournament and with a regular season win over Pittsburgh already under their belt they won’t be lacking confidence on Saturday.

Tip-off for the Pittsburgh Panthers and Villanova Wildcats is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
