Archbishop Earl
Paulk, who faced accusations of a sex scandal in his Atlanta-area megachurch,
has died. Paulk passed away early Sunday at Altanta Medical Center. He was 81.
The cause of death has not been released. Paulk has been
in bad health for several years after a battle with cancer. Paulk’s family has
not commented.
Paulk co-founded the Cathedral at Chapel Hill in Decatur,
Georgia in 1972. Several of his parishioners accused him of sexually abusing
them. Paulk’s granddaughter, Penny White, also accused him of sexually abusing
her as a child. In October 2007, a court ordered DNA test revealed that Paulk
was actually the father of his nephew, Donnie Earl Paulk.
Paulk pleaded guilty in January 2008 to charges of lying
under oath by denying affairs with several women.
