NCAA Basketball Elite Eight Midwest Region Scores: Michigan State Spartans Punch Final Four Ticket with Win Over Louisville Cardinals

Goran Suton scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Kalin Lucas added 10 points and 5 assists and Draymond Green finished with 8 points and 10 boards as the #2 Michigan State Spartans knocked off the #1 Louisville Cardinals 64-52 in the Midwest Elite Eight showdown, sending them to the Final Four in Detroit.

Louisville struggled from the floor all day as it took nearly four minutes to sink their first basket yet Michigan State couldn’t capitalize early and when Preston Knowles buried a three-pointer with 9:09 left in the first half the Cardinals were up 16-13. Knowles kept the Cardinals in the game throughout the first half but the Spartans headed into the break with a 30-27 advantage after Korie Lucious sank a triple in the final minute.

The Cardinals managed to grab a 34-32 with 15:37 left in the game when Earl Clark hit a jumper but the Spartans went on a 9-2 run to move in front 41-36 and Louisville was on their heels. Michigan State then stepped up the pressure with a jumper from Durrell Summers and he followed that with a three-pointer and the lead was extended to 46-37 and the Cardinals were reeling.

Michigan State pushed their lead to as many as 17 in the final three minutes as the Cardinals had no answers to the long-range shooting of the Spartans and their own inability to hit free-throws.

The Spartans hit 46 percent of their shots from the floor including an 8-16 performance from beyond the three-point line while the Cardinals hit 38 percent from the floor and just 10-18 from the foul-line.
