NBA Scores: Dwight Howard Dominant as Orlando Magic Top Miami Heat or Sixth Straight Win

Dwight Howard scored 22 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, Rashard Lewis added 21 points and Hedo Turkoglu finished with 16 points and 5 assist as the Orlando Magic (55-18) knocked off the Miami Heat (39-35) 101-95 on Monday night for their sixth straight win.

The Heat held a 21-18 advantage with less than two minutes left in the opening frame but Magic closed with an 8-0 run to carry a 26-21 advantage into the second. That lead would be extended to 32-21 in the opening minutes of the second as Miami struggled from the floor early but the Heat used a 19-7 run to grab a 40-39 lead. Miami would hold that one-point advantage until Rafer Alston hit a layup and then Turkoglu sank a pair of free-throws to put Orlando in front 46-43 at the break.

Orlando came out firing from long range in the third quarter, hitting five three pointers, three from Rashard Lewis, but an 11-point fame from Dwyane Wade kept the Heat within 70-69 heading into the fourth quarter. The Magic quickly built some breathing room in the final frame but the Heat wouldn’t go away and after Wade scored six unanswered points Miami was in front 85-83 with five minutes on the clock. The two teams traded leads over the next three minutes but with the score knotted at 92-92 Lewis buried a triple and Howard hit a layup to give the Magic a 97-92 lead with less than a minute on the clock. Wade managed to get the Heat to within 97-95 but J.J. Redick sank a pair of free-throws with 15 seconds left to ice the game.

The Magic were deadly from beyond the three-point line as they hit 10-19 on the night and shot 50 percent from the floor to overcome a 42-point night from Dwyane Wade.
