Seeton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc. has issued a
nationwide recall of their pistachios shipped on or after September 1, 2008 due
to possible salmonella contamination. The recall involves about 1 million pounds
of pistachios.
The recall
includes 2,000 pound to 1,000 pound bags of roasted unshelled pistachios sold
to wholesale customers and Seeton Farms brand roasted salted shelled pistachios
in 9-ounce bags with a best before date between January 6, 2010 and January 19,
2010. Private Selection shelled pistachios sold at Kroger stores, including Ralphs,
Fred Meter and other stores owned by Kroger, are also a part of the recall.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the California
Department of Public Health are investigating the possible contamination. Seeton
said the recall in not associated with the recent peanut and peanut butter
recall.
The FDA recommends that consumers avoid eating pistachio
products until the investigation is complete.
