Israeli Child Killed in West Bank by Palestinian Man Wielding Axe

A 13-year-old Israeli boy was killed and a 7-year-old boy left injured after a Palestinian man attacked the two with an axe in the Jewish settlement Bat Avin south of Bethlehem in the West Bank.

According to Israel radio the attack was carried out by the military wing of Islamic Jihad and Imad Mughniyeh Group, the first such attack carried out since the new Israeli government was formed earlier this week under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The attack could further hamper the chances of an Israeli and Palestinian peace as Netanyahu has already favored a hard-line stance concerning talks and Thursday’s attack could further divide the two sides.

Police are still looking for the man responsible in the axe attack.
