The
NIT finals will be played on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New
York as the Baylor Bears take on the Penn State Nittany Lions at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Baylor
was one game away from making the NCAA tournament but fell to the Missouri
Tigers in the Big 12 championship. The Bears have since rattled off four straight
wins, knocking off Georgetown in the NIT opener and then dropping Virginia
Tech, Auburn and San Diego State to reach the finals. Led by seniors Curtis
Jerrells and Kevin Rodgers and sophomore guard LaceDarius Dunn the Bears have
been clicking and could cause a number of problems for the Nittany Lions on
Thursday night.
Penn
State was almost certainly one of the last teams left out of the NCAA
tournament as they had an impressive regular season with wins over Michigan
State, Purdue and Illinois twice. The Nittany Lions rebounded from the
disappointment and after edging George Mason in their NIT opener they ran
through Rhode Island, Florida and Notre Dame to reach the finals. They have had
big efforts from Talor Battle, Andrew Jones, Stanley Pringle and Jamelle Cornley
throughout their recent stretch and their ability to control the glass could be
the difference against Baylor.
