New Israeli Foreign Minister Questioned Over Corruption Allegations

Newly appointed Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is already facing challenges two days into his role as he was questioned by police for more than seven hours on Thursday regarding corruption allegations.

It is believed the allegations stem from an investigation into a company run by his daughter, an investigation that has been ongoing for the past 13 years.

Lieberman was said to be under suspicion of bribery, breach of trust and money laundering; all accusations that he denies. He has insisted that the allegations have been politically motivated yet he has cooperated with police.

On Tuesday Lieberman was sworn in as the new foreign minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. His appointment was met with some skepticism due to his strong right-wing sentiments, particularly his policies in regards to talks with Palestinians.
