Yankees Alex Rodriguez will not be Suspended for Playing Poker
The MLB has decided not to suspend New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez because of his alleged involvement in underground poker games. A source told ESPN that if it is determined that he was involved in the games he will not be suspended but receive another warning from the commissioner and "not lightly."
The only scenario that Rodriguez would likely be suspended is if it is determined that his involvement in the games extended beyond simply playing cards and he was involved in drug use and betting on baseball games.
Major League Baseball has shown concern that Rodriguez was violating the league's substance abuse policy at the games where it was reported cocaine was openly being used. Another concern is that the amount of money being wagered on the games (hundreds of thousands of dollars) would make Rodriguez more vulnerable to gamblers asking him to affect the outcome of games.
