Registered dietician Jayson Hunter gives some insightful tips for creating your very own healthy eating plan. He believes that a healthy eating plan is far more satisfying than following a strict weight-loss diet that leaves you feeling deprived, hungry and more mentally obsessed with certain foods.
Hunter explains, “A healthy eating plan need not be boring. It doesn’t have to be loaded with fat-free, low calorie, bland and tasteless food”. He adds, “In fact, one can stick to a healthy eating plan and still enjoy a menu that includes tasty yet healthy foods”.
Here are Hunter’s tips on creating a healthy eating plan:
1) Start with the basics – To begin with stick to the essential foods groups like fruits and vegetables, cereals, milk and dairy products, meats and fish. A healthy eating plan needs to be a balance of all the essential food groups.
2) Time your meals – Aim to eat about 5-6 small meals a day. The time between each meal should be about 3 hours at the most. Eating small meals helps speed up the body’s metabolism and helps burn more fat in return.
3) Eat in moderation – Don’t assume that just because it’s healthy, you can eat more of it. A healthy eating plan should include eating the right foods in the right quantities.
4) Enjoy your food – A healthy eating plan does not mean you cannot enjoy your food. In fact, eating a healthy meal is far more satisfying than following a strict weight loss diet which gives you a feeling of being deprived of good food.
Fad diets are not the solution for healthy eating. Instead, include a healthy eating plan in your lifestyle for long term health benefits.
