Just two days after 30 United States soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash, another NATO helicopter went down in eastern Afghanistan Monday morning.
A spokesman for the NATO-led ISAF confirmed another Chinook helicopter made a “hard landing” in Paktia province. Lieutenant Colonel David Doherty said there were no causalities in Monday’s incident. The cause of the crash landing remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Enemy fire is not believed to be a factor.
Meanwhile, the cause of Saturday’s deadly crash is under investigation. The Ch-47 Chinook helicopter was carrying 30 U.S. soldiers – more than 20 of which belonged to the Navy SEAL team that killed Osama Bin Laden in May – seven Afghan troops and one Afghan interpreter when it went down in central Maidan Wardak province. The Taliban claims to have shot down the helicopter.
